Two-Photon Counting interferometry

چکیده
Two-photon counting (TPC) interferometry has been realized by measuring the electrical current due to two-photon absorption in the space charge layer of a semiconductor detector located at the output port of an interferometer. We apply this technique to study the correlation properties of twin beams issued from parametric fluorescence. We describe in details how the different second-order correlation functions (interbeam, intrabeam) can be extracted at the femtosecond timescale from raw data. The values of these correlation functions determined by our experiments are in excellent agreement with theory. More precisely, extrabunching in twin beams is unambiguously demonstrated and theoretically described using two models: a comprehensive multimode quantum optics model and a simpler classical stochastic approach. Given the high brightness of our twin-beam source, both theories yield similar results. Finally, convenient analytical expressions of the correlation functions were derived from both theories, expressions in which we have been able to relate specific terms to accidental and exact coincidences between photons. Two-photon interferometry thus determines to which extent twin photons are twin. This technique should become a useful tool for future quantum optics developments. ha l-0 08 11 40 5, v er si on 1 10 A pr 2 01 3 Author manuscript, published in "Physical Review A 87, 1 (2013) 013844" DOI : 10.1103/PhysRevA.87.013844

A Non-Demolition Photon Counting Method by Four-Level Inverted Y-Type Atom
The semi-classical model of atom-field interaction has been fully studied for some multilevel atoms, e.g. Vee, L, Cascade X , Y, and inverted Y and so on. This issue is developed into the full-quantum electrodynamics formalism, where the probe and coupling electromagnetic fields are quantized. In this article, we investigate the full-quantum model of absorption and dispersion spectrum of trappe...

We introduce, analyze, and experimentally demonstrate a compact semiconductor-based scheme for a femtosecond-scale partial fourth-order coherence g((4)) measurements. The scheme is based on a start-stop photon-counting Hanbury Brown and Twiss (HBT) interferometry of an upconversion-based Michelson-interferometer autocorrelation. The experimental realization employs second-harmonic generation in...

We derive the optimal N-photon two-mode input state for obtaining an estimate straight phi of the phase difference between two arms of an interferometer. For an optimal measurement [B. C. Sanders and G. J. Milburn, Phys. Rev. Lett. 75, 2944 (1995)], it yields a variance (Deltastraight phi)(2) approximately pi(2)/N2, compared to O(N-1) or O(N-1/2) for states considered by previous authors. Such ...

The quantum scissors device of Pegg et al (1998 Phys. Rev. Lett. 81 1604) enables truncation of the Fock-state expansion of an input optical field to qubit and qutrit (three-dimensional) states only. Here, a generalized scissors device is proposed using an eight-port optical interferometer. Upon post-selection based on photon counting results, the interferometer implements generation and telepo...

We consider recent developments in the theory of the two-photon interferometry in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions with emphasis on the difference between photon and hadron interferometry. We review the available experimental results and discuss possibilities of measurement of the photon Bose-Einstein correlations in ongoing and future experiments.
